Hi. My name is Marjorie and I am a book addict.

I have long to-read lists on my journals and piles of unread books beside my bed. I carry my Kindle everywhere I go and I always visit the bookstores first when I go to malls.

My mother gave me a Bobbsey twins book for my seventh birthday. It was The Case of the Crying Clown. That started my love affair with mystery novels.

I fell in love with A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett when I was eight. I have gotten bored with the Famous Five/Secret Seven/Sweet Valley Twins series and challenged myself to borrow books off the Classics section instead. After enjoying T.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, I vowed to finish the rest of the Children's Classics before I graduated from primary school. And I did.

I became a Potterhead when I turned eleven. I saw myself in Hermione Granger right away. I realized that it is okay to be smart and it is okay to fight for what is right even if you'll be mocked. When things get tough, I always borrow Harry Potter and A Little Princess from the library (I didn't have my own copies then), and remember that I can overcome adversity too. It worked. Despite all odds, I graduated Valedictorian twice.

Fast forward to 25-year old me, I am now working for an international foundation that provides employment, livelihood and education opportunities for the Filipino poor. A dream come true, indeed. All the books I've read and loved have shaped me to the person I am now. And if it's even possible, I'm a bigger bookworm than I once was at seven.

I am a nerd and I am proud to be one. And you know what? Reading is an addiction I won't ever quit.
